If you’ve heard about weed carts and are curious about what they could do to upgrade your herbal routine, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know.

A weed cart is a vape cartridge filled with an oily extract made from cannabis. You use it by attaching it to a 510-thread battery and inhaling through the cartridge’s mouthpiece. The battery supplies the power necessary to activate the cartridge, which uses a heating element to turn the oil to vapor. When you inhale the vapor, you enjoy the THC and other active compounds from the weed, but no smoke is produced.

The fact that weed carts don’t produce smoke is a huge benefit, but it’s not the only one. Weed carts are also popular because:

  • They’re significantly more potent than smoked herbs.
  • They don’t take up a lot of space and don’t require special smell-proof storage.
  • They’re small enough to carry everywhere you go.
  • They’re discreet because they produce very little smell.

In this guide, we’re going to answer all of the questions that you might have about weed carts as a beginning vaper. You’ll learn about the different types of vape carts and what you need to buy in order to get started. You’ll also learn how to use a weed cart and how to make sure that your experience will be as good as it can be.

Ready to get started? Here’s what you’ll need.

How Much Is a Cart?

Vape cartridges are very affordable. You can expect to spend well under $10 for a top-quality empty cartridge. We offer two empty cartridges at Rokin.

  • The Titan 2 Cartridge, which is a single-use cartridge available in half-gram and one-gram capacities. This cartridge costs $3.75 and is designed to be used until it is empty and then discarded.
  • The Easy-Fill Cartridge, which is a refillable cartridge costing $7.95. This cartridge can be refilled as many times as you like until you’re no longer happy with the flavor quality.

If you’re using an empty vape cartridge, you’ll need to buy vape oil and fill the cartridge yourself. This is the most affordable way to use weed carts over the long term.

If you’re looking for a vaping setup that’s a little more convenient, you can use pre-filled weed carts rather than empty ones. We offer several pre-filled carts in the Smoke Shop section of this site. As you probably guessed, pre-filled carts are more expensive than empty ones, and that’s because the oil comprises the majority of the cost. A pre-filled cart usually costs a little over $30. Because vape oil is so potent, though, you can typically expect a cartridge to last through many vaping sessions.

Here are a few of the pre-filled carts that we offer at Rokin.

For those who would rather have an easier way to get started, we also offer an extensive selection of disposable vapes in our Smoke Shop. A disposable vape essentially combines a battery and a weed cart in a single package that’s already set up and ready to use. You can use a disposable vape until it’s out of oil, and you’ll replace the entire device at that point. Disposable vapes cost a little more than vape carts in the long run, but they also offer a high level of convenience that many people appreciate.

What’s Better: Pre-Filled or Empty Carts?

Having trouble choosing? Here are the main differences between pre-filled and empty weed carts.

  • Using empty carts means that you’ll pay less in the long run if you’re able to buy vape oil in bulk. It also means that you can choose exactly what goes into the carts, and many people appreciate having that level of control. However, some people don’t enjoy the process of filling vape cartridges because it’s slow and occasionally messy.
  • Using pre-filled carts is much more convenient, but it costs more in the long run because it’s more expensive to buy vape oil in small amounts than it is to buy it in bulk.

What Types of Pre-Filled Carts Are There?

If you’re going to buy pre-filled weed carts, you need to understand what you’re getting. Here are the three things that you’ll see when you look at the package.

  • Cannabinoids: Every vape cart has a cannabinoid profile that might include Delta-8 THC, Delta-9 THC, CBD, HHC, THCA and many others. Explaining the differences between the various cannabinoids is beyond the scope of this article, but it’s important to know a cartridge’s cannabinoid profile before buying it. As you gain experience, you’ll grow to understand what your preferences are.
  • Flavor Profile: Many vape cartridges have added flavors. The flavors are added both to enhance enjoyment and to dilute the vape oil, which is usually extremely thick. Some companies use standard food-grade flavors, and others use plant-based terpenes selected to mimic the scents and flavors of popular cannabis strains.
  • Type of Extract: Every vape cartridge contains an oil-like distillate obtained from cannabis flowers. Although we refer to this substance as vape oil, it isn’t a fat and is actually more like an essential oil. It’s usually obtained through the use of pressurized carbon dioxide and/or solvents. You may also see a term like “Live Resin” or “Live Rosin” on a vape cart. Live resin refers to an extract that’s created by combining frozen cannabis flower with a solvent. This type of extract is usually very high in active cannabinoids. Live rosin refers to an extract that’s extracted with water rather than harsh solvents. This type of extract retains more of the volatile terpenes and is usually very flavorful.

Are Weed Carts Safe to Use?

When you buy weed carts, it’s important to buy a recognized brand from a reliable vape shop or dispensary. Don’t buy from places like convenience stores because that’s how people end up with fake vapes. Fake vape carts could contain undisclosed additives or contaminants that are potentially dangerous to inhale. A reliable maker of vape carts sends its products to third-party labs for testing and makes the test results available for the public to read.

How to Use a Cart

In this section of our guide, we’ll briefly explain how to use a weed cart. Would you like a more in-depth walkthrough? Refer to one of the guides below.

Here are the most important things that you need to know about using a weed cart.

  • If you’re using an empty cart, fill the cart by injecting oil into the cartridge’s filling port. Pay attention to the cartridge’s capacity and don’t overfill it. If you’re using a new cartridge, you’ll need to let the oil absorb into the cartridge’s ceramic wick for at least a half hour before vaping. If you’re using a pre-filled cartridge, you can start vaping right away.
  • Connect the cartridge to the battery by screwing it into the threading.
  • If you’re using a battery with a fire button, you may need to turn the battery on before you can begin using it. You can usually do this by pressing the button five times.
  • Inhale gently through the cartridge’s mouthpiece to vape. If you’re using a device with a fire button, you’ll also need to hold the button down.

The most important thing to remember when using a weed cart for the first time is that you should start with just a few puffs if you’ve never vaped a concentrate before. Keep in mind that a concentrate contains only the active compounds from cannabis flowers and none of the inactive plant materials. Unless you have a very high tolerance level, you’ll find that just a few puffs will go a very long way. That’s why vape carts last so long.

Having Problems with Your Weed Cart?

Are you having issues with a weed cart? In this section of our guide, we’ll provide some tips that can help. You’ll also find links to our longer guides with more detailed troubleshooting steps to try.

  • Clogged Cart? A vape cart usually clogs because you’ve puffed too firmly when vaping, and that has caused oil to plug the cartridge’s central chimney and/or airflow vents. Try dislodging the clog by inhaling firmly through the cartridge or by manually breaking up the clog with a paper clip.
  • Leaking Cart? This is also usually caused by using too much air pressure when inhaling through the cartridge. If the leak causes the cartridge to become clogged, you’ll need to unclog it. You may also need to clean your device’s threading and the bottom of the cartridge, which you can do with a cotton swab and a little rubbing alcohol.
  • Cart Not Working? Make sure that your vape battery is charged and turned on. Remove the cartridge and check for leaked oil under it. If you find a leak, remove the oil with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. If your vape battery is blinking, click the link to find out what the error code might mean.
  • Cart Tastes Burnt? If your vape battery has adjustable power, lower the voltage. The best voltage for THC carts is usually around 3.6 volts, although this varies between different brands of vape carts. If you’re trying to use a new vape cartridge that you’ve just filled, give the oil a bit longer to absorb into the cartridge’s wick.
